re: Skeptics and Quackhunters: "Christian Black Ops"?

[Back to Overview Page]

Dear Science-lovers

I found your names during my search for Internet connections dealing with the "Skeptics" movement, "Quackhunters" and Christian crusaders against the devil in holistic health.

Recently I had a brief exchange with someone who visited my teaching website (which includes a focus on honest inquiry into the physics of human health). The original contact he made with me was cryptic and touched on raw nerves I have about the attacks on highly intelligent and honest people I have known who have publicised their discoveries and experiences with so-called "Complementary and Alternative Medicine" and Integrative Medicine approaches.

I just posted a page on my website for people such as yourself who are mentioned on the Internet dealing with science and skepticism.  This includes excerpts from his note and my reply. From this page you will find links to my writing about Flat Earth Medicine, and the need for honest scientific inquiry into health-improving techniques that are not yet fully explained using current western science (such as Acumeridian Science ).

In this modern age of Internet and media campaigns in support of political candidates, and the misinformation campaigns they run, I remember such tactics as shown in the expose' of the campaign to push a drug (Neurontin) using false claims and fake testimonials. I am certain that I see a disguised campaign by Christians to crush any understanding that they believe might lead people to not need to convert to their religion in order to feel good about life. (This reminds me of the "God of the gaps" position I read about long ago, or what could be called the "God of the suffering" whose followers believe that "unbelievers" need to know how wretched they are before they can be led to relief and salvation by faith. These are just two ways that God is limited from being the God of beauty and enjoyment.) It is challenging right now for me to condense my concern in a brief email, but I think this email and the web page I made will give you enough to consider.

What I would like to do is to enlist your cooperation in approaching religious groups (including "Skeptics" and "Quackhunters") that are condemning homeopathy and acumeridian therapies, and get them to support honest science into these low-cost ways to improve human health. It is my understanding that religious groups attack these because often their proponents are not Christians. [However, I have known many committed Christians who use "holistic" approaches, some are high-profile teachers of these techniques.] That is a sad misunderstanding of the nature of human physiology and the body's energies, and of methods that help improve the body's energies and self-healing ability.

It is my firm belief that fear-based religious opposition to health care approaches -- such as homeopathy and acumeridian sciences -- has put humanity into a serious situation threatening the survival of our species. Please read my website and pray about your response before taking action.

I think that it is possible that "all of you are correct," that all religions and philosophies can be right at the same time. Einstein wrote about Flatland where two-dimensional flat-beings could not make sense of shadows of cubes and trapezoids. In the same way I think Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists, Cheerful Rational Materialists are all correct. But I admit that it would be miraculous for them to all get along.

May God help us all.
